Pet Identification and Licensing
What is a microchip?
A microchip is a tiny transponder implanted in your pet. A microchip is about the size of a grain of rice and carries a unique identification number. When scanned, it transmits the ID number. No battery, no power, and no moving parts required.
Why are microchips important?
Microchipping your pet provides a form of permanent identification. Pets with microchips are 5X more likely to return home safely then pets without them. Microchips can’t be misread, and the identification number is tamper-proof.
How does the microchip process work?
You will first need to fill out a form at the Fresno Animal Center with your contact info and your pet’s info. The microchip is inserted under the loose skin between your pet’s shoulder blades – this process is virtually pain-free. Your pet will now have a permanent ID – it’s as easy as that! Microchips are NOT a GPS tracking device.
Why are microchips important?
Pet tags can get worn over time, but a microchip is a permanent form of ID. Pets with both a microchip and tag ensure that finders will be able to get in touch with you.
Why do you recommend both forms of ID?
Pet tags can get worn over time, but a microchip is a permanent form of ID. Pets with both a microchip and tag ensure that finders will be able to get in touch with you.
