Making Dog Licensing Easier With New Software System

Media Release – Jerry P. Dyer, Mayor

FRESNO, CA – The launch of a new licensing software system, aims to streamline the dog licensing process, increasing compliance and enhancing the chances of pet reunification.

The Fresno Animal Center has partnered with DocuPet as the official dog licensing software platform. Through pet licensing and the complimentary HomeSafe™ 24/7 lost pet service, DocuPet offers residents an effective pet identification and reunification tool. This software assists in keeping pets out of shelters and ensures they are returned home safely.

DocuPet tags are assigned with a unique code on the back, which is linked directly to a pet’s secure online profile. This makes it easy for anyone who finds a lost pet to reference the code and create a Found Pet Report in seconds. Pet owners will also be able to create Lost Pet Reports as soon as they realize their pet is missing. In addition, DocuPet’s dedicated dispatch staff is available 24/7 to help reunite lost pets with their families.

All dogs, four months and older in the City of Fresno, are legally required to be licensed and must have a valid rabies vaccination for the license to be issued. The new licensing software allows our community to comply with licensing requirements from the comfort of their homes. Residents will be able to purchase a new license or renew an existing license online, in person, by mail, or via phone (phone services are limited to license renewals only).

A valid rabies certificate is required to complete the licensing process. You must upload or present your certificate at the time of purchase.

Current licenses will be transferred to DocuPet, and renewal notices will be sent via email or U.S mail from the licensing provider, DocuPet, based on the contact information on file.  Late fees will also be waived during the next three months allowing residents time to update any expired licenses.

The Fresno Animal Center offers several resources for low-cost spay/neuter services to assist residents in spaying or neutering their dogs, which qualifies them for a lower license fee. Additionally, the city offers free microchips and will soon offer free vaccine clinics.
