A FOSTER

A foster is someone who volunteers to temporarily house a care for a shelter pet while they await adoption or rescue. Save a life! Become a Foster today!

Why do pets
need fostering?

Shelter pets will be placed in a foster home if the following criteria is met:

• They have been at the shelter
for extended period of time
• Undergoing medical treatment or awaiting surgery
• Too young to be housed in the shelter
• The shelter is full, need the available space

What kind of pets
need fostering?

Large dogs,
puppies, kittens,
nursing moms, neonates,
small dogs, all of them!

Do I need to
pay to be a foster?

Not at all! We just ask that you spend time caring for and socializing with your foster pet. We will provide supplies and medical treatment if needed.

LOST KITTENS

0 – 6 weeks old

IF NOT CRITICALLY INJURED…

0 – 2 weeks: eyes closed or barely open
2 – 4 weeks old: eyes open and alert; becoming mobile
4 – 6 weeks old: very mobile and often talkative

STOP! Can you see the mom cat or a nest?

YES

Don’t Kit-Nap. A kittens best chance of survival is with mom. Leave the kittens where they are. If you want to help, make sure mom has access to shelter, food, and water. You may get the mom and kittens fixed when they’re ready.

NO

Are you Sure? Mom may be off hunting or not want to come around if people are present. Watch for her to come back for a few hours.

LOST KITTENS

6 – 8 + weeks old

IF NOT CRITICALLY INJURED…

6 – 8 weeks old: very active and playful;
around 1 – 2 pounds

8 weeks old: very active and playful;
2 pounds or more in weight
